Spoiler Alert on the Week Ahead
Mafia lexicon, Lies, Revisions and Histrionics to attack Assange and Wikileaks
Get ready for some heavy lingo that casts aspersion on Asperger’s/autistic Assange, starting fresh on Monday. The cycle of attacks and propaganda is expected to repeat on a weekly basis as the intensity of pressure to expel Assange from Ecuador’s embassy increases. “This could be it”, edge of your seat, increased tension in the plot development (a la Reality Show scenario “Real Reporters”, see my previous post)
Monday — Initial jabs. Nasty. Generous application of words that befit a mafia boss heading a mafia organizaion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_Mafia-related_words
and https://mentalfloss.com/article/68509/10-gangster-pieces-mob-lingo
Tuesday — lots of tweets, retweets and replies, evocative and provocative tweets intended to hurt and polarise Wikileaks supporters
Protagonists and Antagonists vie for headlines, publicity and popularity over the week.
Wednesday — More of the same. Surprise announcement where President of Ecuador makes a statement at some press appearance that threatens Assange’s asylum. “He must go.” Wikileaks supporters freak out.
Announcements about anti-Assange alliances are rolled out. Who is on who’s side. How wide the net of hate toward Assange, who else should be caught in the net for targetted hate?
Thursday — haters post the emotional responses of the people trying to defend Assange and Wikileaks, responses are used against supporters
Friday — Does Assange get expelled? See, that’s the thing. Starting on Monday, apprehension about the danger Assange faces begins to mount again. It reaches a crescendo by Thursday. A lot of time is devoted to responding to rants, lies, revisionist history and people taking credit for things that they shouldn’t take credit for.
Saturday /Sunday — anti-Assange and anti-Wikileaks people go to a festival, network, build face to face contacts to recruit more people to the alternative project which essentially is designed to replace Wikileaks and the collective of people who support Assange.
Sunday night — Mr. Brown plays musical chairs with Julian Assange and wins. Ms. Colvin plays musical chairs with Sarah Harrison and wins. The music stops but somehow Assange and Harrison are still the Prom Prince and Princess.
I could be wrong. I still support all activism, whistleblowing and truth telling.
I just have a gut feeling that this week might be more drama and less justice.
It feels like the week ahead is the primer or teaser for an abduction of Assange from the embassy of Ecuador in London. It feels like this will repeat a few more times in a news cycle that will repeat mischaracterizations, lies or half-truths and baiting for the purpose of dividing and polarizing Wikileaks base supporters.
I am hopeful that Ecuador will stay the course, honour its covenant and legal obligations to Julian Assange this week.
I am hopeful that Assange will remain alive, not commit suicide, eat some healthy food and disregard the predictable attacks which will unfold starting Mon. Aug 20 2018. It’s Monday in Australia right now.
I don’t have a clever way to wrap this up.
Just keep your eye and ear attentive to mafia lingo, people taking credit for things they don’t deserve and a dangerous but childish game of “musical media” akin to a kid’s party game called “musical chairs”. Bring your helmets!
