How to always have access to Joy

A long time ago, I came up with the line, “Joy is ever in your reach.”

I have revisited this countless times since then. It’s been almost 10 years.

Even when life is overwhelming and tragic, there is always something joyful that can come to mind to ease the suffering. It is not being “disloyal” to the suffering to have a fleeting moment of joy, even if it takes the form of recollecting a memory, of a pure, wholesome or lovely thing.

Like a lotus floating on a lily pad. I saw this yesterday at a marsh.

Like the smile my blue heelers flash me when they tell me they are having fun.

Like the sound of my father’s voice, over the phone, when I can hear him smile.

It is not infidelity to submit your attention to joy even in the anguish of a difficult period of life; whether that is a day, an hour, a year or a decade.

Joy is ever in your reach. ~ just jude

That’s it for my first post in Medium.
